Default install xp on two computers from one cd?

Hi,
Is it legal to buy an Xp CD and install it on two computers?
And if it is not legal,am i really detected by microsoft?
i mean in what ways can microsoft detect me? what are the chances that microsoft can not detect me? have you ever done this?
