Default How to install Windows XP when I don't have an OS.?

I just bought a Compaq Laptop and it doesn't have Windows XP installed, but the seller said it is keyed. How can I install XP Home? Can I just use a reboot disk or do I need to buy a whole new program?

Yes, you need to buy the Windows XP with Service Pack 2.

If you already have the disc, insert it in the drive and wait until it boots on the disc. Follow the instructions carefully, if the computer asks you to reformat the drive, click on yes and select the NTFS partition. Wait until the installation is finished. Drivers can be downloaded or bought from the Compaq website or buy from a reseller.

Well if you have a Windows sticker on the bottom of the laptop then you should be set. You will still need a CD to install the software though. Microsoft won't help you in this instance since you'll have whats known as an OEM license, they'll simply refer you to the reseller, Compaq. Your best bet is to contact Compaq directly at 800-474-6836, have your system information handy, and ask them for a replacement disc (just say you lost your original and nothing else). Nowadays, most companies are supplying what is referred to as a recovery cd (specific for model), which is not really an official Windows disc but it'll get the job done. While this cd will reinstall Windows for you, unfortunately it will also install all the extra crapplications that Compaq likes to pitch. If you don't have the COA sticker on the bottom of the laptop, you don't have much choice but to go out and purchase a fresh copy of XP. You should be able to find a small PC shop that will sell you the OEM version for around $100.
