Problem reinstalling windows xp server pack 2?

Due to a huge virus problem, I can only run my pc in safe mode. So i decided to reinstall windows xp, completly deleting the old files and etc. I'm able to prepare for the install, but right after the computer start to begin installing I get a black screen with a blinking " _ ", Please help me =(..

Format your drive which had windows previously. Don't quick format it.
Format it completely. Then, try installing windows.

If it doesn't help, then i think its your RAM, which is faulty.
