I have seen several questions on here relating to Windows ME. I realize older computers may not support Windows XP but Windows ME is junk period. Even I had problems with ME. I have installed Windows XP on a PIII 700MHz processor with 256MB of memory and it worked perfectly. I also installed Windows XP on a PIII 900MHz laptop with 128MB of memory and it is slow but it is a LOT better than running ME. ME sucks period. At the very least find an old copy of Windows 2000 to install.

Bad choice. Many people thing '98/ME is safer than XP. Wrong. These older OSes are very much able to get and spread viruses, even easier than XP in most cases. Another reason is the cost of a new system. Most systems that were built to run '98/ME are too out of date to handle XP with SP2. So, continueing to use a computer that is otherwize just fine is done in lue of another big purchase.

I think ME was installed on a lot of pre-packaged systems - the type of stuff Joe Consumer buys from Circuit City & Walmart. If that's what you got with the machine, and you either don't have access to a (legal) copy of something else or don't know how to upgrade/convert a system, then you're pretty much stuck.
