yes windows 98 operating system will be able to handle 256MB of RAM but the computer you are using has to able to accept and use the memory you are installing, if the memory module doesn't fit then make sure its the right type of memory for your computer

It's not a question of whether Windows98 will handle the RAM, but
whether your (old?) computer has the necessary ports/
connections to accept a newer RAM card.

Its not the size of the memory. Rather its the type of ram. Since you have W98 comp its probably really old. And your using a ram that is not the right type for the mother board.

Check the model number and research what computer you have and itill tell you what type of ram it uses. But im telling you, your not gona have any luck finding Ram for a computer that old at any computer hardware store.

I know someone who ran XP on 64.

Your operating system, which is Windows 98, has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with whether or not you can install a specific RAM card.

Try here

www.crucial.com

And... have it installed professionally, or you'll break your computer :X.

Oh, you have to buy the right kind of one , if it doesn't fit, don't force it.
Take ur computer to a computer technician, he'll probably know what kind it is then install it.
