USB port on my laptop doesn't recognize my Ipod?

Hi, I have a brand new Ipod Touch and I'm using the new Itunes software. When I plug my Ipod into my USB dock on my laptop I receive a message that says "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it."
My Ipod worked normally before when I plugged it in but now I receive this message and don't know why...

My laptop is a Dell 700m running on Windows XP if that helps.

I do not know if I need to download new drives for my USB ports to have them work when I attach my Ipod so it can recognize it. Or if its my Itunes or something else...

Please, help me anyone, with drivers to help my USB ports or any suggestions. THANKS

when you say USB Dock do you mean you have a Docking station for your laptop and connect the ipod touch to the usb port(s) on the docking station or do you mean its directly connected to a USB port on the laptop - if directly attached to the laptop and it does not recognise it, have you tried a different USB port ?

What about if you try and connect it to a different machine - if it still does not work then I would call apple and either arrange a store visit or see if they can fix it over the phone.

Another thing I would try and do is get the latest motherboard drivers aka chipset drivers for your laptop from the

support.dell.com website.

You will need flash installed if you dont already have that installed.
